Mexico has no digital nomad visa. Remote workers use the general temporary resident visa for economic solvency, which the Foreign Ministry says allows work only when the salary is paid from abroad. At the Las Vegas consulate in 2026 you show monthly income above USD 4,630 for the last six months, or an average balance of USD 78,025 over the last twelve months, and pay a USD 56 visa fee. Other consulates set their own amounts, so treat these as one consulate’s figures, not a national rule. Record: tracker row.

Worked example: a couple

One applicant using the income route with a spouse as a supported relative needs USD 4,630 + USD 1,498 = USD 6,128 a month at the Las Vegas consulate (our arithmetic from the sheet). The sheet also gives the USD 1,498 figure as an average balance for each relative on the savings route; ask the consulate how it combines the amounts.

The 30-day card step

The visa sticker is not the residence document. The SRE page says you must obtain the residence card within 30 calendar days of entering Mexico. The card’s fee and appointment rules were not on the pages we read; check them with Mexico’s migration authority before you travel.

Not verified

  • Residence-card fee: older guides quote a peso range; no official page we read states it.
  • Renewal and permanent residency: commonly described as renewable inside Mexico, with permanent residency after four years. Not on the pages we read.
  • Health insurance: not stated on the pages read.

Tax

The visa does not settle tax. PwC’s summary (last reviewed 6 Aug 2026) says Mexican tax residence follows having a home in Mexico, and where you have homes in several countries, the centre of vital interests (for example more than half your income from Mexican sources). It lists no day-count test. Residents are taxed on worldwide income (PwC). Compare other countries’ tests in the nomad visa tax-residency table.

How it compares

At USD 4,630 a month, this consulate’s bar is far above the cheapest schemes in the lowest-income ranking. Colombia’s V visa asks three monthly minimum wages and Costa Rica’s remote-worker stay USD 3,000. To set the bar against rent and daily costs, see the Mexico City cost of living sums and the Mexico City neighbourhood guide.

Update log

  1. Rewritten from the visa tracker record, whose official pages were read on 29 Sept 2026: income corrected from about USD 4,300 to USD 4,630 a month and savings from about USD 74,000 to USD 78,025 (Las Vegas consulate, 2026 sheet); fee USD 56; family add-on and processing time added. Unsourced figures removed (card fee range, city cost estimates, four-year permanent-residency path). Government pages could not be reopened on 1 Nov, so nothing was re-read on that date.
